The Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will support research in Dr. Ashok Veeraraghavan’s Computational Imaging Lab focused on the development of computational imaging systems that integrate optics, sensors, electronics, signal processing, and machine learning. The selected candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research involving the design, development, and evaluation of advanced imaging systems, including computational microscopy and related biomedical imaging applications. Responsibilities include conducting experiments, developing algorithms, analyzing imaging data, preparing manuscripts and presentations, contributing to research proposals, and collaborating with faculty, students, and research partners. The position will also provide opportunities to mentor junior lab members and further develop an independent research profile under the guidance of the principal investigator. Workplace Requirements:This is a full-time, exclusively on-site position that requires all duties to be performed in person at Rice University campus. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change. Hiring Range: $65,000 - Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime. This position is a one-year term-limited position funded by grant, soft, and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent upon the renewal of funding. Requirements. PhD. or other doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering. No additional post-graduate experience required. Preferences. Research experience in computational imaging, biomedical imaging, microscopy, optical system design, computer vision, machine learning, or related areas. Experience with imaging hardware, optical instrumentation, image reconstruction, or post-processing algorithms. Familiarity with clinical imaging, digital pathology, biological imaging, or related biomedical applications. Experience designing experiments, analyzing imaging data, and evaluating system performance. Essential Functions Designs, develops, and evaluates computational imaging systems in support of sponsored research projects. Conducts research experiments involving imaging hardware, optical systems, sensors, electronics, algorithms, or related computational methods. Collects, organizes, analyzes, and interprets imaging data using appropriate experimental, computational, statistical, or machine learning methods. Develops, implements, tests, and refines image reconstruction, post-processing, computer vision, or machine learning algorithms. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, imaging systems, and research prototypes relevant to assigned projects. Reviews scientific literature and applies relevant findings to the design and advancement of research activities. Prepares manuscripts, technical reports, presentations, figures, and other research materials. Contributes to grant proposals, progress reports, and other project-related documentation as needed. Collaborates with faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduate students, clinicians, and external partners on interdisciplinary research projects. Provides technical guidance and support to students and other research personnel working on related projects. Maintains accurate research records, follows laboratory safety protocols, and supports responsible use and maintenance of laboratory space and equipment. Performs all other duties as assigned.
