What We’re Looking For: Michael Baker International is seeking an energetic and motivated Planner I to support our Planning Practice within the Agency Staffing Group in Long Beach, CA. This entry-level role is ideal for someone eager to learn and grow while supporting public agency clients. Under moderate supervision, you will assist with front counter operations, process minor land use entitlements, and contribute to a variety of planning functions supporting client permit centers and development review processes. What You’ll Do: Respond to public and developer inquiries related to zoning and planning information Support daily operations of client-facing permit centers Process minor land use entitlements, including CU - Ps, AD - Us, sign permits, and plan checks Conduct site visits and gather data to support application processing Review development plans for compliance with General Plans, zoning regulations, and design guidelines Assist in preparing staff reports for Planning Commission and City Council meetings Support preparation of resolutions, ordinances, and CEQA-related documentation Coordinate public noticing requirements including posting, publication, and mailings Distribute project materials to outside agencies Assist with public workshops, EIR scoping meetings, and public hearings Support filings with the State Clearinghouse and County Clerk offices Conduct planning studies and basic research assignments Assist with municipal code updates and ordinance amendments Perform other duties as assigned by Planning leadership or client staff What You Need to Succeed: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or related discipline 2 years of relevant planning experience Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments Commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work Ability to quickly learn policies, procedures, and relevant software systems Willingness to work on-site at client offices throughout the Greater Los Angeles area
