Lab Manager - Electronics Lab (Contract, Part-Time) Location: Longmont, CO 80501 Type: Contract. Schedule: Part-Time | 20 hours/week (4 hours/day, 5 days/week) We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lab Manager to oversee operations within an electronics lab environment. This role is best suited for a hands-on technical professional with deep expertise in soldering, specifically BGA rework and reballing, combined with strong lab management and organizational capabilities. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of lab operations, ensuring structure, efficiency, and technical excellence. Overview This part-time contract role requires a candidate who can independently manage lab operations while maintaining a high standard of technical execution. In addition to hands-on electronics rework, the Lab Manager will be responsible for maintaining order, ensuring equipment readiness, tracking inventory, and supporting engineering workflows. Candidates must be prepared to demonstrate advanced soldering capabilities, including BGA rework and reballing, during a practical evaluation following the initial screening process. Key Responsibilities Lab Operations & Management Oversee day-to-day operations of the electronics lab, including equipment, tools, and workspace organization. Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient lab environment with clear operational structure. Establish and enforce lab standards, procedures, and organizational systems. Track and manage inventory of components, consumables, and lab equipment. Ensure all lab tools and equipment are properly maintained and operational. Technical Execution Perform advanced precision soldering and electronics rework tasks. Execute BGA (Ball Grid Array) removal, replacement, and rework. Perform BGA reballing operations with high accuracy and consistency. Conduct fine-pitch component soldering and repair work. Maintain high-quality workmanship across all rework and repair tasks. Engineering Support & Documentation Coordinate with engineering teams to prioritize lab work and support project timelines. Document lab procedures, processes, and completed work activities. Support troubleshooting and prototyping activities as needed. Maintain clear communication regarding task status and lab operations. Required Qualifications Proven experience managing or overseeing an electronics lab or similar technical environment. Expert-level soldering and rework experience, specifically: BGA rework (removal and replacement) BGA reballing techniques Demonstrated ability to successfully perform hands-on technical work (practical assessment required). Strong organizational skills with a structured and detail-oriented approach. Proven work history demonstrating stability, reliability, and progression in similar roles. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills and professional accountability. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Linux-based systems. Familiarity with rework equipment (hot air stations, IR rework systems, microscopes, etc.). Experience managing lab inventory systems or technical asset tracking tools. IPC certification (IPC-7711/7721 or equivalent) in rework and repair standards. Background in electronics manufacturing, prototyping, or hardware engineering environments.
