Please Note – This is a new classification for the County. Classification, salary range, and funding for this position is subject to approval by the County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors. Anticipated Board approval date is July 1, 2026. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced Psychologist to provide PhD psychological services. Employment Standards. Knowledge of: - Clinical psychology; philosophy of community mental health - Federal, State and local regulations relating to mental health - Etiology of human dysfunction from biological, sociological and psychological frames of reference, research and statistical methods. Ability to: - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others - Effectively evaluate and treat clients - Offer consultation to community agencies - Evaluate programs - Write professional reports. This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time.
The Ideal Candidate
Education and Experience. A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:Must have at least two years of experience in a mental health setting. Licenses and Certificates. Must have obtained a California license as a psychologist, granted by the California State Board of Psychology. Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver's license will be required at the time of appointment.
