The Comprehensive Center for Surgical Innovation (CCSI) is an initiative of the Mount Sinai Bio. Design Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Bio. Design Institute is dedicated to developing cutting-edge medical technologies for surgery and other clinical areas through direct collaboration with physicians and surgeons. Working at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and entrepreneurship, the CCSI accelerates the design, testing, and commercialization of next-generation devices and instrumentation to improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities The CCSI Lab Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Anatomy Lab and OR space within the Comprehensive Center for Surgical Innovation (CCSI) at the Mount Sinai Bio. Design Institute. The Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of anatomical specimen management, including procurement, scheduling, and disposal or return of all human tissue used in research and education. A central priority of this role is ensuring institutional compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing the handling of human tissue for medical research and education. The Manager serves as the operational lead for CCSI anatomical projects, coordinating sessions run by the CCSI as well as those conducted by external partners and clients utilizing the lab space. The role also contributes to institutional development by designing and refining protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documentation systems to improve the efficiency and throughput of the facility. Anatomical Coordination (20%) Manage the full operational cycle of human tissue and cadaveric material, including procurement, scheduling, inventory tracking, storage, and compliant disposal of specimen Procures cadavers, cadaveric material, and other teaching and dissection lab materials for the CCSI Oversee proper storage and maintenance of cadavers and cadaveric materials in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards. Collaborate with vendors to ensure ethical and legal compliance in the handling, use, and disposition of all anatomical materials. Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of the anatomy labs and OR space, including staffing, equipment, and supplies. CCSI & OR Environment Oversight (60%) Provides leadership and oversight of the set up and management of all the anatomy and OR spaces in the CCSI - Manage the day-to-day operations of the anatomy labs and OR space environment inclusive of staffing, equipment and supplies. Partners with CCSI leadership on the resources and set up for all CCSI anatomic sessions. Consults with scheduled session directors regarding laboratory logistics, supplies, equipment and support for all sessions scheduled within the CCSI anatomy space. Coordinates specimen services for all CCSI cadaveric sessions Liaises with the institutional offices for Safety, Security and Environmental Health. Evaluate laboratories operations for efficient practices, and appropriate use of resources, ensuring effective use of services. Ensure compliance with institutional, local state and federal regulations related to safety and quality standards. Oversee procurement, inventory and management of anatomy labs and OR - Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures, process documentation, and facility handbooks for all CCSI users. Other Responsibilities (20%) Develop and implement work processes to achieve program efficiency and deliver services effectively. Maintain and update processes, procedures, and handbooks for all CCSI facility users. . Supervise the CCSI Laboratory Technician, including performance management, professional development, time management, and conflict resolution. Serve as member of various committees as appropriate. Exercise sound judgment and leadership when acting in lieu of the Scientific Director. Partner with CCSI leadership to track the programmatic financial progress and prepare financial reports. Cross train and support other team members. Perform other duties as needed as part of a collaborative team. Qualifications. Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum five years experience as laboratory with two years supervisory experience involving supervision of professional laboratory personnel. Comfort and experience handling cadavers and cadaveric materials preferred. Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Proven ability to problem solve, multi-task, and understand the big picture. Ability to make sound decisions in complex or emergent situations. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communications and excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Commitment to teamwork, collaboration and maintain confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
