The Building Services Technician has primary responsibility of housekeeping and building services activities throughout the Cone University Center to ensure the building is maintained to established unit standards during his/her shift. A technician supports the cleanliness and maintenance of spaces in and around the building as directed that best meet the needs of the university community, including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, replenishing supplies & products, glass cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, wall washing, and dusting. He/ She reports to the shift supervisor, who will coordinate the daily schedules and any special assignments, and will utilize and properly maintain cleaning equipment, based on standard operating procedures, to departmental specifications. He/ She may work a staggered schedule and will serve as an essential employee during holidays, emergencies, or inclement weather. This position’s primary work location is Cone University Center. This position supports the Student Centers department, including all department facilities (Cone Center, Student Union, 49th Acre) as necessary, and assists with custom room setup services as necessary. Minimum Education/ Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions, and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Note: Some state job postings state you can qualify by an ‘equivalent combination of education and experience.’ If that language appears above, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Essential Job Duties This is a journey-level second shift position with the following essential duties: Technical skills required involve janitorial/housekeeping and floor care. This position can be asked to support students with custom room setups when student workers are unavailable. All hours physically worked after 4 pm will entitle the employee to receive an additional 10% night shift differential pay. Clean and maintain all building areas inside, and designated perimeter outside, to establish high unit standards. The primary working location of this position is Cone University Center. Perform advanced operations of equipment such as auto scrubbers, burnishers, and extractors for maintaining hard floors and carpet to high unit standards. Perform daily tasks, including but not limited to restroom stocking, sanitizing & cleaning; windows/glass, offices, auditorium, dining areas, meeting rooms, and common areas by detailed cleaning all surfaces and all furnishings. Perform laundry duties. Review and interpret computer-generated room reservation documents and reports to organize daily workflow. Understand the needs of a variety of clients, respond to customer requests promptly, and appreciate the importance of clients in the work environment. Recognize potential problems in service, and address and resolve them promptly. Treat customers courteously and with respect at all times, and sustain productive customer relationships. Interact with clients, including students, visitors, staff, faculty, and administrators, in a friendly, open, and accepting manner. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others to encourage and support communication and teamwork. Understand role within the organization and display positive, professional behavior. Assist co-workers to even out workloads during peak periods. Follow all prescribed safety procedures and regulations related to Departmental/ University policy and equipment standards. Take action to correct and report hazards. Attend all mandatory and recommended safety and Skill. Port workshops. Assist student workers assigned to perform custom room setups as needed. Ensure all rooms are clean and meet all safety requirements and standards. Custom room setup furniture includes tables, chairs, podiums, staging, pianos, room dividers, and other furnishings inside and outside the facility as requested. Follow instructions provided by supervisor and department leadership and complete assigned tasks promptly. Other duties as assigned. Other Work Responsibilities Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy lifting, be able to comprehend written set-up reports, and interpret room diagrams. Must have a demonstrated record of dependability and performance stability, and of consistently meeting the day-to-day demands of the job. Computer-literate and willing to learn new programs required. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration. Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/ Education Requires professional cleaning and janitorial experience, alongside a strong working knowledge of floor care. Must be able to perform medium-to-heavy lifting, interpret room diagrams, and comprehend written setup reports. Ability to properly operate, care for, and maintain all manual and power equipment and chemicals used in building environmental services.
