Assist the public with the circulation of materials. Help meet the material needs of patrons through circulation; charging, discharging, and library card registration. Provide technology assistance, quick reference assistance by using our Integrated Library System or the Online Public Access Computers. Assist patrons with the Self-Checkout Machines, Copiers, our website, databases, and occasionally our Automated Handling System. Provide support to understaffed Library locations and completing special projects. Assist with Library programs both inside and outside the library. Resolve any questions patron may have in regard to their account such as long overdue/missing materials or accepting fines and fees by using the cash register, card reader, preparing and taking bank deposits. Train and assign tasks to volunteers. Other duties include emptying book drops, shelving, sorting, answering phones, shipping and routing materials to other locations. This position is also expected to assist with bus pass sales, voter registration, passport applications and other revenue generating opportunities. Receive office supplies. Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers, the public, and vendors; Treat everyone with honesty, respect, and fairness. Assist in APL's diversity and inclusiveness efforts. Ensure excellent customer service and a positive user experience while being an efficient member of the team. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school, GED, or the equivalentandone(1)year of customer service and/or library experience. A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire. Passport Acceptance Agent Certification within six(6)months of hire. Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
